Just like any sport, running is a much more successful experience when approached with proper form and mechanics. But where to start? There are a lot of form ideas out there, many of which are overly complex. So, let's break things down and focus on a single form cue for each area of the body.
While pursuing your optimal run experience, it is a must to RUN TALL. When you run tall, you align the elements of posture (shoulders, core, hips) that create an efficient and powerful stride. What you want to avoid is hunching forward (trashes efficiency) or leaning back (promotes poor ground mechanics).
TIP 1 - Head and Eyes
Optimal head alignment can be achieved by simply focusing your gaze on the horizon. In setting your eyes on the horizon rather than on the ground immediately in front your stride, you will naturally keep your head in the appropriate neutral position. This neutral head position is one factor in maintaining the desired RUN TALL posture.
Next week Coach Caleb will reveal his second head-to-toe running form tip.
